COTTAGE PATH,  Main Bathroom

Back Together Again

I started with the vanity. While visiting with my daughter Karlee, we went into town where she lives in New Braunfels, looking specifically for a table that would work for a vanity. We found one we thought would work; I didn’t have the measurements for the space, but I thought it looked perfect. When we got it home, it was too wide for the area, and I was a little upset with myself for not having measured the space. Then looking at it as it sat in the back room, I wondered if I turned it in the other direction, if it might just work. It worked perfectly.

I started painting the top, and while painting it, I noticed the pattern on the table’s edge matched the top of the toilet tank. Then we need to decide where to cut the table so it can be attached to the wall. And I also wanted to cut the legs off that part to add a shelf under the countertop. Looking at the countertop, I liked the idea of using the side cut as the backsplash. Are you confused yet? The pictures hopefully help. Because the top of the table was used for the backsplash, the bottom self needed a top. Tony was able to replicate the pattern and make the top. The sink and faucet worked out great too.

For my birthday, I received gift cards to the Magnolia Silos; that is where I found the perfect mirror for over the sink. Because I decided to use antique brass finishes, the light fixture from another room worked for the ceiling light. It has authentic crystal beads, so I wanted to find a light with a similar look and period. I’m happy with my find.

Another find was at the original Magnolia store just down from me on Bosque Blvd. It carries sale items from the Silos—antique brass hooks for the hand towel and bathrobe hooks for the door.

The bathtub had glass doors that were removed, and because of this, the tile had to be repaired. I think Tony did a great job.

I mentioned in the last post that the wall on the wall opposite the sink had tall cabinets that took up to much room. They were removed and relocated to the hall closet. You can see in the photo that they not only had glass doors on the tub but a shower curtain also; not sure why.

We had a television wall cabinet that we were not using, and not sure where we were going to use it. I measured it, and it worked out to fit, and the color matched the tile. People ask if we painted it to match.  He also added a shelf inside. I found the towel bar and shower rod. We are just waiting for the toilet paper holder. We decided to put the holder back on the same wall and locate it higher.

The final touch was to frame the piece of original wallpaper and hang it up; it matches perfectly too.
