COTTAGE PATH

Blending the Two Sides

The kitchen had two faces that I needed to figure out how to make them become one. With the entry moved and the pantry relocated, I started painting away the brown cabinets and ordered new hardware. At the same time, remove the sheetrock and brown and gold tile from the backsplash to expose and paint the shiplap.

I added small details with the vintage towel rack and roller shades on the windows. We came up with the detail on the wall they left in the middle of the counter. Plus, new ceiling light fixtures are also much-needed fans.

Then you turn and look at the other side of the kitchen and say now what? The refrigerator moved to the corner to its proper place, and the pantry moved the upper cabinets hanging by a skinny nail. We need to replicate the sink side. We removed the sheetrock, upper cabinets, and backsplash tile. Plus, I wanted to replace the microwave hood above the stove with a vent hood that vented out the roof.

We decided to replicate the original upper cabinets from the sink side. I knew my awesome husband could do anything! I can’t remember which of our kids bought him this t-shirt, but it says, “If Papa can’t fix it, we are screwed.” He hates it when I brag on him, LOL.  And the cabinets look amazing—Complete with a new range hood. I bought “what they call a Retrowave and placed it on a rolling cart where the refrigerator was located.
