Let’s Go Outside!
I’m starting to feel like it’s our home now that I can go outside and get my hands in the dirt. I started by getting a “How To Garden In Texas” book and researching what plants and trees do well here. Texas is so big I needed to find my zone, zone 8b. I also paid attention to what I saw around town.
Brown is the color of the fence and the trellises and the accent color on some of the cottage. With the trees providing quite a bit of shade, I think they need to be given a freshening up. With a new style and fresh white stain, they are being renewed.
The past owners actually cut holes in the fence to let the cats in. a new gate leading in from the driveway that swings in now instead of out. Also a gate that leads to the side yard with a trellis that will have Virginia Creeper crawling up and laying across the top. Not quite finished yet, but we’re off to a great start.
The backyard was anything but a backyard. Gravel and no personality,
grass has made it so much nicer. Still has a little growing to do.
We converted the outdoor daybed to a porch swing with rope and a coat of paint, our favorite spot for morning coffee.
Westview Nursery has been my go-to place for plants; it just happens to be next to my grocery store. It’s hard not to stop in. Tony gave me a gift card for Mother’s Day. They are so helpful and patient with me as I learn the dos and don’ts of Waco gardening.
These are now home here at the cottage.
